Work-package 3: Planning of the intercultural paths

WP leader: Durham University Within this work package the intercultural paths are developed, and the theoretical and methodological principles they founded upon are discussed in detail. The objectives for this WP are:

  • Establishing the topics to be addressed during the blocks;
  • Choosing, adapting and developing teaching materials, and translating them when opportune;
  • Identifying the most effective methodological principles;
  • Developing materials (including instructions for teachers).

The overall approach, already agreed in principle within the consortium during the application process, is to develop materials and methodologies that aim to prepare students for the intercultural opportunities and challenges they are exposed to during and after their study-abroad experiences.Since the teaching of intercultural paths takes place in five different countries (Italy, Belgium, Slovenia, Finland, and UK), besides the core features which must be common to all the teaching modules, specific adjustments are planned in this WP to harmonise the modules with the existing services offered locally to outgoing and incoming Erasmus students (e.g., language courses, informational seminars). Moreover, materials are translated into each language of instruction; since English as a Lingua Franca is also included in Block-2b, this implies further reflections on language-mediated identity matters and the means to address them fully within the intercultural paths.All partners are involved in this WP, which is led by the University of Helsinki. Since the partners involved have complementary expertise (in applied linguistics, intercultural education/communication, educational technologies, and internationalisation), both transnational and interdisciplinary dimensions in the undertaken decisions are guaranteed. This, in turn, constitutes a step towards the objective of planning intercultural paths which are exploitable in other European countries.This WP will produce four deliverables:

  • Activities for Block-1
  • Activities for Block-2a and Block-2b
  • Activities for Block-3
  • Set of communication tools (to be used in Block-2a)
